Watermelon Berries Carving Board (Printable)

A colorful watermelon boat filled with mixed berries and fresh mint for a refreshing touch.

# What You Need:

→ Main Fruit

01 - 1 large seedless watermelon, ripe and firm

→ Berries & Accents

02 - 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
03 - 1 cup fresh blueberries
04 - 1 cup fresh raspberries
05 - 1 cup fresh blackberries
06 - Fresh mint leaves for garnish

→ Optional Additions

07 - 1 cup seedless grapes, halved
08 - 1 cup pineapple chunks
09 - 1 lime, sliced for garnish

# How-To:

01 - Wash all fruit thoroughly under cool running water and pat completely dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
02 - Cut a thin slice off the bottom of the watermelon so it sits flat and stable on a board or platter without rolling.
03 - Slice off the top third of the watermelon lengthwise to create a boat-shaped vessel for the fruit arrangement.
04 - Using a melon baller or sturdy spoon, scoop out the watermelon flesh, reserving the balls or chunks in a bowl. Remove as much flesh as possible while maintaining a sturdy shell approximately 1 inch thick.
05 - Arrange the reserved watermelon balls and chunks back into the hollowed shell, layering with half of the prepared berries.
06 - Artfully arrange the remaining berries and optional fruits around the watermelon carving on a large serving board or platter for an elegant presentation.
07 - Top the arrangement with fresh mint leaves and lime slices if desired for added visual appeal and freshness.
08 - Serve immediately at room temperature, or refrigerate until ready to present to guests for optimal freshness.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • It looks like you spent hours on it, but your secret is safe with me—thirty minutes, start to finish.
  • Every guest becomes a kid again reaching for berries from inside a watermelon boat, and that joy never gets old.
02 -
  • The thickness of your watermelon shell is everything—too thin and it collapses, too thick and it looks clunky; one inch is your sweet spot.
  • Pick berries over grapes if you're making this more than four hours ahead; berries hold up better than stone fruits, which can get mushy.
03 -
  • A sharp knife and confident cuts matter infinitely more than fancy tools—I've seen people do beautiful work with just a good chef's knife and a sturdy spoon.
  • If berries start feeling soft before your event, it's not a failure; they're still delicious, just serve them in the watermelon rather than around it.
